HCA: Revised COVID-19 Testing Clinical Policy

Attention Apple Health (Medicaid) providers: HCA has revised its COVID-19 testing clinical policy.

The Health Care Authority (HCA) recently alerted Apple Health (Medicaid) providers that, effective for dates of service on and after January 1, 2021, HCA has revised the Apple Health (Medicaid) COVID-19 testing clinical policy to include pharmacists and dentists.

  • Dentists – During the public health emergency, prior to an aerosol generating procedure, a dentist may prescribe, administer, and bill for COVID-19 antigen testing (CDT® code D0604) or specimen collection (CDT® code D0415), or both. (See the Apple Health (Medicaid) COVID-19 testing clinical policy for details).

COVID-19 Fee Schedule

See HCA’s Provider billing guides and fee schedules, under COVID-19, for HCA’s updated Emergency COVID-19 Fee Schedule, dated January 1, 2021.

Please reference the "Workplace Safety & Health FAQs" on WSDA's COVID-19 Clinical Guidance page for more information about administering COVID-19 Point-of-Care (POC) tests in your office.

Medicaid Transition to Managed Care Cancelled

The 2019 Legislature has directed the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) to continue to administer the dental Medicaid program through fee-for-service. The HCA may not proceed with a carved-out or carved-in managed care dental option at this time.
