Update on Temporary Practice Permits

An update from the Dental Quality Assurance Commission (DQAC) regarding temporary practice permits.
The Dental Quality Assurance Commission (DQAC) shared the following update Wednesday regarding temporary practice permits.

Temporary Practice Permits - Governor Proclamation 20-59.3

The Governor has issued updated Proclamation 20-59.3. It has been extended to September 1, 2020 and 2020 dentist graduates may now be eligible for the temporary practice permit whom were not eligible under the previous proclamation.

The modification to the proclamation includes a change to 1. Eligibility criteria b. from “Has not previously taken the state-level examination(s) required for licensure” to “Has not previously failed the state-level examination(s) required for licensure”.

Additionally, the modification changes 2. Expiration criteria b. from “The Temporary Practice Permit holder fails to take the first examination available, unless unable to do so due to illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control” to “The Temporary Practice Permit holder fails to take the first examination available within a reasonable travel distance, unless unable to do so due to illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control”.

Our credentialing staff are reviewing temporary practice permit applicants and will process permits where appropriate.

If you are an applicant that received a previous letter indicating you do not meet the criteria please continue to check the provider credential search web page to check the status of your temporary practice permit. Once the status is active, you may begin providing dentistry.
