Orthodontic Services Billing Guide Update

Apple Health (Medicaid) Provider Alert

Effective for claims with dates of service on and after February 8, 2020, the Health Care Authority (HCA) no longer covers replacement retainers, brackets, or lost or broken orthodontic appliances. This change aligns with recent amendments to Chapter 182-535A Orthodontic Services.

HCA updated the Orthodontic Services Billing Guide to reflect these changes.

Medicaid Transition to Managed Care Cancelled

The 2019 Legislature has directed the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) to continue to administer the dental Medicaid program through fee-for-service. The HCA may not proceed with a carved-out or carved-in managed care dental option at this time.
